Week 1 - Introduction, Goals, and Expectations

Hello!

My name is Emily Min and I'm currently enrolled at CSULB as a studio art major with an emphasis in metals.

This fall semester, I'm taking Art 490 which is a course that's designed to teach us how to create presentable portfolios in order to showcase our artwork, attract potential employers or clients, and hopefully get hired or whatever we aim to achieve through having our own website.

With this class, I hope to achieve the following:

  • To learn how to create a website/e-portfolio that is user-friendly and will capture people's attention
  • To learn the different features offered by blogging websites in order to figure out what I should or shouldn't put on my website
  • To create a customized website for my dad's business in conjunction with my own website
  • To collaborate with my peers to get their opinions on what they would want to see on my website, as well as looking at theirs for inspiration
As for how I'd like to be graded in this class, an example would look something like this:

  • A: The student noticeably spent lots of time dedicated to writing thoughtful blog posts. They've thoroughly fulfilled the criteria for exercises relating to the creation of their website. The website is attractive and is highly organized; it is easy to navigate. There is lots of content and visuals there for visitors to understand whose website it is and what the website is about; visitors should be able to pinpoint what the student's work entails, along with their interests.

  • B: The student has spent an adequate amount of time to write their blog posts and they've fulfilled all criteria for exercises relating to the creation of their website. The website is attractive and is organized; there's not too much trouble navigating the site. There is enough content and pictures for visitors to know whose website it is and what the website is about; visitors should be able to get a feel for what the student does.

  • C: The student missed one or two blog posts and hasn't fulfilled one of the criteria for exercises relating to creation of their website. The website isn't rich in content or visuals but has few aspects of it. The website is somewhat disorganized; visitors will have trouble navigating the website and there isn't a lot there for visitors to browse through. It isn't clear whose website it is, nor what they are trying to gain from having the website.

  • F: The student has three or more missing blog posts and hasn't fulfilled more than two of the criteria for exercises relating to the creation of their website. The website lacks content and visuals. Visitors won't know whose website it is, nor can they tell what the website is about.
